The year 2000 may be marked as a milestone in the history of Itahar as the residents of Itahar witnessed the foundation of Dr. Meghnad Saha College, an institution that turned dreams into reality; however, this way of transforming the long nourished dream into a pleasant reality required a firm mind, a deep sense of belonging, a whole hearted effort and a strong social leadership ; and virtually the almighty enriches Dr. Srikumar Mukherjee (the then local MLA and MIC , Civil Defence, Govt. of West Bengal) with all those human qualities that results into the foundation of Dr. Meghnad Saha College, which gradually becomes the beacon light for the aspirants of higher education not only of the whole of Itahar but also the entire district and beyond
